A Day of Professional Development
Humanistic Therapies: Current Practices, Trends, and Challenges
Freedom Paradise Resort on the Mexican Riviera Maya, FreedomParadise.com (Photos on AHP's calendar at ahpweb.org)
Monday, January 17, 2005, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Humanistic Psychology is alive and well. More than just a psychology, it is a philosophy and a value system which centers on what it means to be fully, optimally human. Its impact extends into many arenas of human endeavor. But it also represents a distinctive approach to the healing arts. Yet, quite often, humanistic practitioners work in relative isolation from each other and in systems that are not humanistically oriented. Outside selected academic settings, the opportunities for exchange of ideas with fellow colleagues are limited.
This workshop will be an examination and discussion of current clinical applications of the principles of humanistic psychology. It is designed to encourage open collegial sharing among professional practitioners in the field.
Topics may include:
* What distinguishes humanistic therapies from other approaches?
* Overview of the variety of humanistic therapies currently practiced, ranging from existential/phenomenological to somatic and energy psychology, Gestalt, family systems, couples therapy, to eco-psychology, transpersonal and other approaches
* Collaboration with other humanistic and/or non-humanistic approaches, such as the medical model
* Ethical practice from a humanistic perspective
* The latest innovations in humanistic practice (postmodern, Narrative, etc.)
* Current challenges facing humanistic therapists and healers
Learning Objectives
Number of Continuing Education Credits is 6
Participants will:
1. Acquire knowledge of the diversity of humanistic approaches to
clinical practice.
2. Develop a better understanding of the efficacy of collaborative
modalities of healing and therapy.
3. Expand their own repertoire therapeutic resources to offer clients.
