The Sacred Dying Foundation website exists "...because we, in western society, do not know how to die well. We are caught between medicine and technology, which very valiantly and wonderfully do their jobs of saving lives, but are not at all conducive to allowing grace and dignity when it is time for a person to die. In addition, we do little more than give a passing nod to the spiritual and religious elements of death and dying. The Foundation's goal is primarily to return the sacred to the act of dying, and secondly to change the model of how we approach death as a whole."
