It is all about me,
this world of moons and suns I see
and moons and suns I cannot see,
and I am about it . . . as I rise
shine, lower, and disappear. We are all of this order:
an order I can follow with my fingertips
but not put in my pocket.
I only step and sail to what goes round and
about,
and it makes me ache to try and pencil it out,
as if the rule above it all
was a rule that belonged only to me . . .
a rule I stood on top of or squatted down upon.So let me believe that we at least belong
to one another,
and let trust be cultivated,
so that if you thirst
you will accept water drawn
from my cupped palm,
and if I were cold and naked
you would cover me with your coat.If our eyes cannot meet here,
if only to begin, then I would think
that I and the heavens above
also have nothing to do with one
another. Yeshaya Rotbard
